Thank you for your interest in the Tuskegee Airmen Heritage Chapter of Greater Sacramento. We are a non-discriminatory, non-profit corporation whose purpose is to educate the public about the Tuskegee Airmen by providing facts, statistics, and personal historical perspectives on their true history and legacy through public outreach including: History Presentations, our Youth Legacy Program, and Scholarships.
Our chapter is part of a nationwide organization known as Tuskegee Airmen, Inc. Our national headquarters is located in Tuskegee, Alabama, and there are 56 chapters nationwide and in the Virgin Islands. Our organization is open to everyone; we are a non-discriminatory, non-military organization dedicated to preserving the legacy of the Tuskegee Airmen.
Every chapter is a 501(c)(3) non-profit under the umbrella of our national organization, with each chapter individually organized and operated, but a membership card will be issued to each member by our national headquarters. Our national organization holds an annual convention every year in July/August and we encourage our members to attend at least one annual convention to see how our organization operates and to meet other members from across the country.
Our chapter’s dues are $80.00 per year for adults and $20.00 per year for youth; $50.00 from the adult dues and $15.00 from the youth goes to our national organization with the remaining in our chapter for operational expenses. All annual dues are due no later than January 15th of each year. For new members who join August or later, your dues will cover the rest of the year plus all of the following year. Within our chapter, we have a Youth Legacy Organization, run by our youth and open to ages 12 – 25. They conduct their own fundraisers and events and meet during the regular chapter meeting. We also have a Youth Aviation program which provides assistance to youth that are interested in pursuing an interest in aviation.
Our chapter raises money for our educational assistance awards through sponsors, vendor sales at various events and presentations. Our chapter holds fundraisers to provide college scholarships to any qualifying local graduating high school seniors and single parents returning to school, planning for careers in Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math (STEAM), the military, or aviation. We do presentations on the history of the Tuskegee Airmen without charging a fee. However, we do accept honorariums for our services and request the right to sell our souvenir items in order to raise money for our educational assistance awards. Our History presentations are given by Heritage members and other qualified members to speak to groups of all ages about the difficulties and contributions of the first black military aviators and their fight, vision, and hopes for the future. Heritage members are the direct descendants of Documented Original Tuskegee Airmen (DOTA)
Our chapter meetings are held the second Saturday of every month, unless notified otherwise, at the McClellan Aerospace Museum, 3200 Freedom Park Dr., McClellan, CA, from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm. We encourage members to attend the meetings, but it’s not necessary. All communications are by e-mail, if possible, and we ask that your e-mail information be kept up-to-date. A chapter roster will be sent out to all members as changes occur, as well as to our national organization.
Again, thank you for your interest. If you have any questions regarding our organization, please feel free to contact us at info@taheritage.org.
